15 Civilians Killed, over 30 Injured as Military Council Fires Heavy Weapons at Sittwe Market

Residents of Sittwe reported that 15 civilians were killed and over 30 injured inside the market after the military council opened fire with heavy weapons in Sittwe, Rakhine State, this morning, shortly after 8:00 AM.

According to local sources, the shots were fired by the Military Council Navy stationed near Sittwe Point.

A nearby resident stated that 15 people died on the spot, with more than 30 injured.

A local resident said, ‘At the moment, 15 people have died and over 30 have been injured. The army is fully present, and details of the situation are yet to be clarified. They are currently being transported to the hospital by emergency vehicles.

Residents of Sittwe also report that the military council has imposed a blockade on the entire city and cut off phone and internet lines.

People from Rakhine state assert that the military council, facing losses on the battlefield of Rakhine, is committing war crimes by repeatedly firing heavy weapons and conducting aerial bombardments on civilian areas.
