The military council is continuously reinforcing the Hmyaw daw oo naval base in Manaung Township.
On September 4th, the military council sent a naval vessel with around 30 troops and weapons to the Hmyaw daw oo naval base. In the preceding days, there had also been reinforcements of troops and supplies, according to a source monitoring the military situation in Manaung.
He said,"The military council is continuously sending weapons and troops to Manaung. I received information that there isn't even enough space left for accommodations at the Hmyaw daw oo naval base. There hasn't been any fighting or military tension in Manaung. Furthermore, they’ve also built solid bunkers around the Hmyaw daw oo naval base."
Local residents said that in Manaung Township, there is no significant military tension between the military council and Arakan Army (AA) but after losing control of Thandwe, the military council has been reinforcing its military presence within Manaung Township.
Additionally, another local resident mentioned that the military council’s continuous buildup of forces in the area is reportedly part of their plan to launch an offensive to reattack Ramree, which they had previously lost.
He said, "People in the area is talking that the military council is reinforcing their forces to launch an offensive against the Ramree. I don't know for sure. Currently, phone lines and internet connections are down. However, phone lines and internet connections are available in areas where the military is present."
Manaung is an isolated island and a township that has been subject to restrictions on travel, fishing, and transporting food by the military council since the restart of the Rakhine conflict.
Because of the military council’s restrictions, people in the region are suffering from shortages of medicine and significantly increased prices for food and other essentials.
