The ongoing clashes between the military junta and the Arakan Army (AA) in the southern part of Rakhine State, near the village of Gyaikauk in Gwa Township, have reportedly intensified. Locals have stated that the military junta’s naval vessels have been firing heavy artillery.
A local from Gwa Township stated, “The fighting is taking place in Gyaikauk. The naval vessels currently stationed in Gwa are also firing heavy artillery. It is reported that heavy shells fired today have hit villages such as Gyaikauk, Sattwa, and Zee Kone. The Arakan Army (AA) is reportedly helping to evacuate the locals. It’s unclear whether there have been any casualties.”
The Arakan Army (AA) has reportedly captured Thandwe Township in southern Rakhine State, and following this, they have also launched attacks on nearby areas, including Gwa and Taungup Townships, which are linked to Thandwe.
In Gwa Township, the clashes have now reached the outskirts of the town, and the military junta has reinforced its forces. The junta is also using aerial bombardments and naval artillery to counter the Arakan Army (AA) attacks.

In the city, there is a full deployment of military forces that have arrived from the Ayeyarwady region. The soldiers from the military junta are causing significant disruption within the city. The sounds of heavy artillery fire can be heard throughout the area. However, there have been no direct clashes in the city yet. Locals are fleeing to safer places using their own methods and routes. Along the main road, there are also reports of the military junta strengthening their presence with full force.
