Residents of Daingkyi Ward in Mrauk-U Township, where an airstrike by the Military Council took place, say urgent humanitarian support is needed for those whose homes were destroyed and those receiving medical treatment due to injuries.

According to locals, on August 25 at around 11:25 p.m., the Military Council’s forces carried out an airstrike on Daingkyi Ward, dropping two 500-pound bombs. The attack resulted in the murder of 12 civilians, including five children, and left about 20 others seriously injured. More than 20 houses were also destroyed.

Community members supporting the victims explained that those who lost their homes and those under emergency medical care are mostly from low-income families. They urgently require humanitarian assistance for temporary shelter as well as basic medical support.

“Those who lost their homes are struggling with shelter, especially since the rainy season is not yet over. On the other hand, those receiving treatment urgently need additional support. Most of them are daily wage workers, so the situation is very difficult. Assistance can be provided through philanthropists like Ko Wai Hein Aung and also through HDCO,” said a local resident helping with relief efforts.

For this reason, locals are appealing to both international and domestic organizations to provide emergency humanitarian aid for the affected residents as much as possible.

Meanwhile, among the more than 20 people injured by the airstrike, at least seven are reported to be in critical condition.
