The military council carried out consecutive airstrikes on three townships in Rakhine for three days, resulting in the deaths of 18 innocent civilians and injuries to 36 others.
The townships that experienced airstrikes from the military council are Thandwe township, Taungup township, and Kantaunggyi which is located in the Myebon township.
On September 26 at 7:40 a.m., the military junta carried out an airstrike using two fighter jets in Thandwe Township, dropping 500-pound bombs on Dwarawaddy Hall and an environmental conservation office, where internally displaced civilians were sheltering near Sani Mountain. The attack resulted in the deaths of 14 displaced civilians inside the environmental conservation office and left 25 others severely injured.
On September 25 at 4 PM, the military council carried out an airstrike on the northern monastery and Ywathayar Ward in Kantaunggyi, Myebon Township. As a result, two civilians from Ywathayar Ward were killed, and seven locals observing moral precepts at the monastery were seriously injured.
On September 24 at 7:40 PM, the military council conducted airstrikes on Tan Hlwe Ywar Ma and Kyauksite Village in Taungkok Township, resulting in the deaths of two locals and leaving four others seriously injured.
The three townships that were bombed are places where the military council carried out airstrikes without any conflict occurring between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military council.
A young resident of Arakan stated that the military junta’s ongoing airstrikes in areas without any ground battles reflect malicious intent and a brutal attitude towards the Arakan people.
He said, “I don’t understand politics at all, and I don’t engage in it either. Right now, I’m teaching for the education of children in a place still under the control of the military council. When I saw the images that came up online today, it really upset me. Among the images of the dead, I see innocent children. What is happening now looks more like the military council is attacking the Rakhine people rather than just targeting the Arakan Army. This shouldn’t be happening.”
The people of Arakan requested that the international community take effective measures to impose restrictions to prevent the military council from continuing such actions.
